Fly SANSA airlines from San Jose's international airport to Golfito. (SANSA
does not transport longboards.) Take a taxi to Pavones ($50 for the two hour
ride). A bus to Pavones leaves Golfito at 10 am and at 3 pm. You can also take a
bus to Golfito from the Tracopa terminal in San Jose. The trip takes about 8
hours.
If you are driving, take the Interamerican Highway south from San Jose until
you get to the town of Rio Claro where you turn off in the direction of Golfito.
After approximately 10 kilometers at the bar El Rodeo turn left.
The paved road ends at the ferry that will take you across the Rio Coto.
Stay on the main road. There is a stretch of paved road before you get to a
small village called Conte (you'll see the high school on your right). Turn
right at the Conte general store and about 1 km later turn left. After another
18 km you will get to Pavones. At the fishing boats turn left and follow the
signs to Mira Olas. It takes an hour and a half to two hours to get to Pavones
from the Interamericana. We recommend not to drive at night.
